Wedding Dress – A reflection of one’s wellness

The custom of bringing two families in unison is called a wedding and varies greatly between different ethnic groups, countries, religions, cultures and social classes. In the past weddings as weddings were considered as more of politics than love. Hence they were expected to get dressed their best. The wedding dress was considered as more of a reflection of the entire family in terms of wealth and the reputation they had.

In the Victorian times while the brides from the rich classes wore bright colored gowns made of silk or velvet as their wedding dress, the girls from poorer classes wore their best church dresses.

As we earlier spoke of the weddings varying in different cultures, so is the wedding dress varying. While in the West the wedding dress is like a gown, in the East it varies in different countries. For example, in India, the wedding dress can be portrayed as a bright colored Sari. In China and Japan the wedding dress is a white robe with a traditional Kimono.

Though there are certain guidelines for a how a wedding dress should look like, due to change in the trends we see them slightly altered in terms of colors, styles and patterns.

Finally we can conclude that no matter what culture, tradition or religion a marriage is taking place, the wedding dress is given the utmost importance in terms of its grandeur as it reflects the social status of the bride’s family.
